Hard drive recovery: mobile hard disk not showing up in my computer

Mobile hard drive now  is common mobile storage device which we are very familiar.

Although now we have a lot of high-capacity solid-state hard drive, most users still choose to buy mechanical hard drive. Mechanical hard drive is the traditional hard drive. It is mainly composed of platters, heads, disk spindle and the motor control it. In contrast, mechanical hard drive failure is easily to have failures. Many people tend to use mobile hard disk to store data for its convenience. The mobile hard disk has a USB interface, easy to plug in, which is similar to U disk. We will often have the problem of mobile hard disk recognize failure in using. In this case, we need to use solve it to know if it is a computer system problem or disk  problem. 

Today I’d like to share with you about the problem: why my mobile hard disk does not show in my computer? I cannot see any drive letter of hard disk.

First of all, we need to exclude the problems one by one. In general, when we plug the hard disk into computer, it will appear a new drive letter in My computer or the computer's disk management.

1. When the drive letter of the mobile hard disk does not display on computer, you need check data line first, to see if it is connected well with the computer and the mobile hard disk. If the data cables are not connected very well, the computer cannot read your hard disk. You can change another USB interface.

2. When the computer's USB port is OK,  and the data line’s connection is good, you still cannot see a drive letter, you can choose to unplug the USB Host Interface, and then plug it again after few minutes. Sometimes the problem may be caused by the sensitivity of the interface. You just need to plug for several times.

3. Try other computers. If you have done a repeated plug, the drive letter still does not show in computer, you can try to plug the hard drive in another computer. If the drive letter show up, it is the computer’s problem. You can use a new system or reset the BIOS.

4. If the drive letter still not show up, it can be sure that it’s a hard disk problem or the USB line is damaged. Change a USB line to see if it can be displayed. If not, you may need to send it to specialists for repair.

If  it is the computer system problem, you can enter into the device manager to know if there are abnormal icons such as question mark or exclamation mark. In that case, we can deal with by adding new hardware. You can download some drive tools to check if there lost some hardware, or it is the compatibility problem.
