What is a file system corruption?

3.      When you try to use CHKDSK command to repair this external hard drive, it will say that chkdsk cannot be rub on the drive. The type of the file system is raw. When you open the disk management windows, you can see the partition is raw or you cannot see a file system type.

In these situations, your file system has been damaged. It is usually result from the partition table or boot sector damaged or corrupted. As the Windows system cannot find a file system, it will prompt you to format the drive so that to create a new one. But keep in mind that do not to format it unless you don’t want to retrieve your data.
