What is a file system corruption?
1. Sometimes,
when you try to open a partition on your external hard drive, the system will
prompt you to format it. In Windows XP, it says” The disk in drive X it not
formatted. Do you want to format it now?” In Window 7,it says that “You need to
format disk x before you can use it. Do you want to format it?”
2. When
you try to access your external hard drive from Windows program, it says “ This
volume does not contain a recognized file system.
3. When
you try to use CHKDSK command to repair this external hard drive, it will say
that chkdsk cannot be rub on the drive. The type of the file system is raw.
When you open the disk management windows, you can see the partition is raw or
you cannot see a file system type.
In these
situations, your file system has been damaged. It is usually result from the
partition table or boot sector damaged or corrupted. As the Windows system
cannot find a file system, it will prompt you to format the drive so that to
create a new one. But keep in mind that do not to format it unless you don’t
want to retrieve your data.

down your computer properly.
2. Safely
remove the external hard drive from computer properly.
3. Scan
your external hard drive first after you connect it to computer.
4. Use
a good quality External hard drive.
5. Maintenance
your drive in daily life.
