Every time when we connect a new USB
device to the computer, the Windows will automatically assign the last drive
letter to it. However, it is possible that you insert your USB device into the
computer, but it may not appear in computer. Even you have checked that there
are no problem in the USB cable and interface, you still cannot find it.
Sometimes it is the drive letter conflict that causing your USB device cannot

How to change the
drive letter?
You can change the drive letter easily by
the Disk Management tools in Windows, but you cannot change the drive letter of
the partition which the system installed in.
First, you need to open the Disk
Management in Windows.
Press Windows key or click the start
button in Windows 7, and input input “
diskmgmt.msc” in the Run window.
Second, With the opened Disk Management,
find the disk you need to change the drive letter Third, right-click the disk
and choose the option of Change Drive Letter and Path from the menu.
Fourth, choose a drive letter to rename
your disk from the drop-down menu.
Click the Change button. Click YES in the
pops up window. Then the change complete, and you can close it.
Why we should not
change the drive letter of partitions which have installed software?
The reason why we cannot change the drive
letter of the software installed partition is that changing the drive letter
will stop the running software. Or you need to reinstall these software after
changing the drive letter.And in any case, you should not change the drive
letter of the Windows partition, usually the partition C.
This is the most simple method to change
drive letter, you can also use CMD command to assign a drive letter.
Click the start menu and input CMD,
right-click the cmd.exe to run as administrative.
Input Diskpart and press Enter.
Type list volume and press Enter. Then all
the disks are listed there. Find the disk you need to assign according to the
size.
Input select volume 5. If you want to assign
the volume 5. Press Enter.
Type assign letter=G to assign or change
the drive letter.
Then you can type list volume to know the
changes.
If there is no a drive letter conflict,
it’s unnecessary to change the drive letter.
