Encrypt
your phone before a factory reset
Encrypt is an built-in
option in Android phone.
Tap
Settings—Security—Encryption.You will see two options: Encrypt device and
Encrypt External SD card. You can choose to encrypt your device or external SD
card to secure your data. The encryption will take one hour or more, please
make sure that your phone has enough power to complete this encryption. Your
battery should be above 80%. If this process are interrupted, you may
suffer a data loss. Once your device is encrypted, you should enter PIN or
password to decrypt it every time.
The whole process
will last at least for an hour.
Factory
reset your phone
After you have
encrypted your device, you can perform a factory reset on your phone. Before
you factory reset it, you should have backed up all your data.
Go to Settings—Backup
and reset, tap Factory data reset. It will prompt that all data will be erased
from device memory and you cannot use the encrypted files on the SD card after
you reset your device to factory defaults. Tap Restore phone. Waiting for
several minutes, the phone will restart by itself.
